Cherries, plums, nectarines, peaches, mangoes, apricots:
A stone fruit (or ‘drupe’) is typically a fruit that has a big hard pit inside, which many people mistake for a seed. Actually the seed is inside the pit, which is a protective layer for the seed.
But enough about pits….what we love about stone fruits is the delicious, sweet, soft flesh and bright yellows and reds that go with our fruit.
We look for fruits that are firm, juicy and creamy and no blemishes. Stone fruits are a great snack, and they are also excellent for pies and sauces. They also make great additions to meat dishes that need a sweet and savoury boost.
